boys hockey match photography & (mis)adventures of 06s03

Yesterday I was assigned to cover the boys hockey 3rd & 4th placing match for photog. I only found out in the morning of that day. immediately after school i went to the dark room to collect the camera. I get to use a professional camera! a DSLR. meaning that the camera is a digital one and the image that you see in the viewfinder is what the picture that is captured will look like.

the dark room is a nice place, small but not claustrophobic or dark. and it's airconditioned too.

after eating only half of my lunch, ryan and i rushed down to CCAB. while on the bus we tried out the cameras. they're heavy and it's our first time handling such cameras. We handled them with utmost care because it was so heavy and they were 4-digit prices, more than $1000 for mine and $2000 for his. mine was a panasonic lumix. we set it to shutter priority, with super fast shutter speed. i think i might have been as fast as 1/100 or 1/50 seconds. the zoom was via the lens, had to rotate it to zoom in or out. the zoom is very good! can go in a lot.

initially i was taking multiple blur shots of things. i still wasn't familiar with the camera. but by before half-time, i could handle it. i learnt not to press the button too hard to take one shot and press half-way to refocus the camera. i could have been hurt several times during the game. the playing area's perimeter was netted to prevent the ball from flying into the spectators. i was in the court along the playing area borders. during the second half of the game i was on the width of the court. so you imagine. the ball flew past me several times when it missed the net or intended player. scary. some of the pictures i took were really good. i copied some into the laptop, mdm ng says i should for my personal portfolio.

i tried taking pics of bats last night. couldn't. i played with the school camera then and earlier in the day as well at home. tried to do the lines radiating from the centre of the photo. i was successful in my first tries. this effect can only be done with DSLRs, S-priority, with slow shutter speed, i think.

by the way, the curly hair venn 6th house comm guy is Ian right?

this morning reached school at assembly time. i had to return the camera which i left in mum's car. she turned around to pass it to me. thank you! assembly started when i was outside the dark room, so i wasn't with my class at assembly. was bitten by mozzies.

played with lynn's crutches, it wasn't my height setting. for me, i would have to set it to maximum. but i can move quite fast. sorry lynn!

i was taking pictures of the class. gonna rename the album the (mis)adventures of 06S03. haha.

photog was slightly tiring. learnt a bit about event coverage, not just sports but concerts as well. i saw some of the photos for the science fair competition. malcolm's and thank's pics are really good! i wonder how they do it, especially malcolm's lightbulb one. it looks like he drew the lightbulb with a "light pen" but the candle at the bottom of the photo is steady. so how did he do it?

i now know why MF wasn't in class, he was rehearsing for yangguang youmiao. i saw some chinese drama pple running around wooden theatre boxes (we used white ones in AOGG) in the volleyball court. they were still rehearsing when i left at 5.30pm . good luck for the show, go SA!

today was the girls hockey finals. gladys was playing against vj(?). so sad no one in our class went to support her. we all had CCA. should have cancelled CCA so we could support her. after all, i booked a bus for the class!

our class is having a series of misadventures. first, lynn injured her ankle, then YH got her foot injured. yesterday JY got into a black mess during maths lecture (won't elaborate to embarrass him) and today JH's spectacles's nose bridge came off! oh dear... lynn says i'll be last because i'll be taking pictures of everyone's misadventures first! haha. choi!

gotta do project work and other homework and etc! AHHH!!(my signature ahh!)

i'm feeling...
