over the weekend. CivilService, Live Earth, farm, results of BT2.

On friday, we j2s were to report to school at 12.45pm instead of the usual 7.25am in the morning. It was College Day today, the 30th one. Most of the cohort was in a holiday mood. The jc1s probably report to school as usual and they were playing their amazing race games. so fun.

I gave out the toffees and the 5p coins to the rest of the class who didn't receive it during the holidays. I also gave SY and Shean their birthday pencils.

We got the answer key for h2 maths and went through the answers, but we didn't get back our papers. It was done en mass in lt1, where we were for most of the day. The method of difference question was tricky! I didn't know it was method of difference at all eventhough i could see that it was when n=1 + n=2 + ...

After maths was a one hour break. I had me ice milo and nothing much else since the canteen was crowded (and probably some of the stalls were not open). We, YH, Lynn, Nithya, JY slacked. EH was trying to figure out the maths solution, while YS was doing music theory. There wasn't seating space for me so i stood in between the pillar and the end of table and leaned there. I shared some of the Take That songs with Lynn. I want to share the songs with YS too.

Econs. I didn't bring the H1 resource package. I thought we were going through new notes. I asked SM and found out about the resource package when i was close to my bus stop, and I didn't want to walk back home since I made it a point to be on time. YH thought we were going through papers only today so she didn't bring it either, and I'm sure other people didn't bring too, like JH. Lynn shared hers with JH and I. Thanks :D.

4pm. some people left for home. Lynn went to go shopping for her mum for her cousin's wedding. Originally, we thought 15 people were required per class to attend college day, but now only 10 needed. a lot of people wanted to drop out. since too many people dropped out, I didn't drop out (though my initial plan was to do so, and mum and dad wanted me to drop out as well and go home earlier). In the end, there were only 9 of us: SY, MF, YS, EH YH HR, Elissa, Nithya and I.

We soon reported to lt1 for attendance taking. The teachers had changed into more formal clothing (later they wore black proper badges with their names and school crest on it as well). Then we sat in the cc and waited. The place soon filled up and a short while of waiting later, the guest-of-honour arrived. He's from a very early batch of students, and he was president of student council, rugby and choir! (jaws drop). In his speech he told 3 funny stories of what happened in his time. The door incident was the most funny in my opinion. A suddenly gung-ho male student had spotted the fiercest disciplinarian in the entire Singapore MOE history, their principal, coming down the corridor to the shaw hall where the pre-u students were "frolicking" during their free period. (the pre-u section of the school was closest to the hall and furthest from the principal's office). the gung-ho student held on to the door handle with all his might with the fiercest disciplinarian on the other side of the door, trying to come in, while the rest of the students quickly left by the other exit of the hall to the ground level of the other side of the school and from there made their way to the classrooms. After the door handle was released, the principal found the hall empty except for that boy, who said "Sir, I think the door handle was jammed." (now, come to think of it, the guest of honour was probably that boy, because he had to be the in that room to know what the gung-ho boy said, but there was only one student in that room. you get what i mean?)

We saw some of our friends get prizes on stage. some won so many prizes (read: top the cohort in 3 subjects) which is astounding. congrats to Shean, Zac, Ryan, Su Hui and other people too many to name for getting awards. :D (hooray that Esha, a girl, tied with Ryan for physics. she stopped male dominance for the prizes (especially in science). go girls!)

Then, seniors who had scored 3 or more distinctions in the A levels received their awards. This inspires me. Finally, a clear goal to me that doesn't seem so daunting and inconcrete. I want 3 As or more in A levels, just like when i wanted 5 or more in the O levels. I can do it!

YS came up with this idea. This is our wish. We wish that at next year's college day, the whole of 06S03 would have their names in the programme. i.e. everyone scored 3 or more distinctions.(btw, i drew a lot on my programme cos i was very bored while the prizes were being awarded. also, my birthday wish wasn't fulfilled. that's all right. :) ) such a nice wish that i really hope will be fulfilled. We should encourage each other often to push on and help each other when we encounter problems in our studies so that as a class we can achieve this goal. :D i'm glad i went to college day.

for the last bit where we had to sing the school song, this old man came onto stage and lead us in it. he had one of the band people play the super big drum POM, POM, POM, in a slow beat then the piano came in and he lead us in singing. "up and on, one more time, up and on," "bom, bom, bom, bom" just before the chorus. so amusing. then we had to sing "glory, glory, hallelujah, X3 and the saints go marching on" three times with "up and on" in the background sung by the opposite gender. i've never heard of this song before. it's a similar tune to the "i know the song that gets on everybody's nerves". This is one of his favourite songs apparently, another song being "when the saints go marching in". (must be an old boy's tradition that we newer people are entirely unfamiliar of.) then we did hip hip hoorays and punched our fists into the air. only an old man like him could pull off such a thing. haha. this whole thing put a smile on everyone's faces. :)

we thought we couldn't eat at the buffet outside, but later found out we could, but it was too crowded. so the 8 of us (elissa went out with her friend) proceeded with the original plan to have dinner out. we went to KFC. It's the first time i've eaten KFC in YEARS. I prefer macs, and there wasn't a kfc near my schools until now. had the $3 O.R. fillet burger meal. seriously, the burgers are small. definitely for the asian stomach. YH and I like the whipped potato. :D she had shrooms meal, $3 as well, cos the burger used the whipped potato sauce. The burger was fine, not super good like MOS, neither was it disgusting. definitely edible. When queueing, i saw the 2 giant trays of chicken pieces. Imagine the number of chickens that were killed for that. :S. i had pet chicken before. they were so cute. YH thinks so too, though she hasn't seen a photograph of mine before. :)

waited for mum and read until chapter 3 of Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen, which I started reading the first 5 pages during college day ceremony.

070707, saturday. at 2pm, i met Bryan at Orchard Hotel. He was my guest for the civil service scholarships and career fair. i'm afraid that the talks were just for jc and poly students, not like for him, i was hoping the career fair could help him get his internship for MFA. The fair was quite useful. I attended 3 talks, MFA, Navy and MOE. MFA is cool. must work very hard for that one though, cos MFA is very pernickety about the people working for them. afterall, they deal with INTERNATIONAL affairs. I love to travel and work abroad. I could fit in. I don't require to go to a UK or US uni. Singapore is preferred, followed by UK. US, i not interested. but to ask me to go to China, France, Germany, Japan or some european uni, erherher... bit difficult since i wouldn't be able to understand a thing. i can only understand 60% of mandarin, my second best language. Navy's cool with me, i've got marine blood in me. just that gotta pass NAPFA...2.4km bit difficult hor. and for MOE, i can forget about it since i most likely won't have the patience. i do love geography, though i don't take that subject, and teaching is cool. maybe should do what the scholar recommends and try out relief teaching. teachers, i commend the good ones for being able to handle a large group of people. it's a tall order, such social skills i cannot grasp. JH also went to the fair with his friend. he went to accountant's department and the other 2 talks i went to besides the navy.

I might not ever get to work for the civil service. more importantly, i don't think i'll ever get the scholarship. i don't have 11 subject units, i have less. and SAJC therefore didn't recommend me or send me down to do the psychometric test unlike JH, lynn and YS (the 2 of them somehow their names weren't registered for the day they went down). sad lah. what to do?

Later went down to Har Kor Yi Yi's new farm plot, a small one where she's selling some plants and rearing fishes like discus. ooo. her farm's nice. she was holding a bbq there and my mum's side came down. MP mum popo and mum's friend left a short while before daddy and I arrived. I like the countryside with open spaces and clean air. on the drive to there we passed by the police academy and sungei tengah airbase. daddy told me a bit of the history of the air base. it was bombed during the war. it was a british airbase, now still military use. the helicopters for the national day are also stored there and they fly from there to the place where national day is and back. also, i looked at the street directory, and cleverly, there's no map of the compound in there except for the main front office block. the rest is just a green patch. i hope the airbase doesn't show up on googleearth, though i think it does.

some of the bits of my old house was used in har kor yi yi's new farm. (the other farm plot is still in use to grow her cacti and hoya flowers.) the pillars for her plant stands were from our home, made of chengai wood. very strong and sturdy, and very expensive. the bathroom plastic screen was used as a doorway, and our kitchen window grille is now used as a fence! it's nice to have a bit of my old home there. it's also nice to know that some of my things didn't go to waste. i like the fact that my relative has a farm. i get to see a side of singapore up close and personal that very few people actually get to see in the first place.

watched live earth when i got back, until 1.30am +. i think slept at 2am +. MT and i made it as far as hamburg. MP went to bed earlier. some singers are good, some are nonsense. MT new favourite band is crowded house. the short films were good. the celebrity adverts were informative too. MT and I liked the Chris Tucker one "eat your veggies". he made salad without a bowl, anyold how chop chop chop with knife in each hand and chop chop fast fast, with big enthusiastic eyes and a very big grin. just watch it. it's so funny! but i'll never become vegetarian or eat more veggies and less meat. it's like asking me to not bathe. thing is, we chinese don't eat salads that much, and that the chinese cooked veggies sometimes taste the same and i just don't like them...

continued watching live earth the next day. there was only one short film where the message was told in a narrative acting way, with storyline, actors, like a tv episode. this was unlike the others which were either arty-farty or documentary style. i wore green for both saturday and sunday. it's good to see some people wear green at the fair, but numbers were few. many more people didn't wear green.

dinner was chicken curry. :D. i ate everything on my plate, especially since i liked the veggies served as well. bryan, debbie, gu zhe and gu zhiong came over. (my cousins and auntie and uncle). i hadn't seen them for a long time except for bryan who i met the day before at the fair. debbie gave me new earrings for my birthday. :D i like them a lot. i initially was shocked by their big size and loud colour, but soon grew to like them. my earring collection is quite small. she also picked presents that were matching to MP and MT's tastes. :). thank you debbie!

monday. back to school. back to norm. get back physics paper and maths too i think. could do better. I just like to push harder to do my best, especially i know this time this wasn't me best. but the marks aren't too bad. i shall not reveal what i got now.

did research for lit project, part of the uk lit trip i went to. i uploaded quite a big bunch of photos. more to come.click here this is a shared album but you'll be able to tell which pics are mine.

today, tuesday. got back chem. my performance slid. i lost my position. nayan has got back onto his scoring track. he is very good with his maths and sciences, and has bounced back from his performance in bt1. i made careless mistakes. interpret the question wrongly lah.

gotta do homework. also gotta do research. bye!
